Menu Plan Monday…
Happy Monday. How blessed we are to have another week together. I just love food and cooking for my family. It is a blessing to know that I can put good food on the table and help to give my family a healthy meal.
Tip for the week: Shop at a store that sells in bulk, i.e., Sam’s, Costco. The key to shopping at these store is knowing the prices at your local grocery store. Take a calculator and take the time to figure out the unit price of the items in bulk and then compare the prices. I recently discovered that I had been paying $.68 per can of diced tomatoes and I can get them in bulk for $.62 each. We use a lot of diced tomatoes, so this is an item that I am now buying in bulk. If you do not use a lot of an item, then you need to decide if it is worth buying in such large quantities. Will you use it fast enough, can you freeze it, etc.
By shopping in bulk, I am able to keep my food budget down. I am able to feed our family of five for at or under around $400 a month. My trips to our local market are just for the individual items that we need for the week and toiletries.
Do you shop in bulk? Let me know your tips if you do. Leave a comment below!
